The Shrewsbury Police Department is committed to the 21st Century Policing model, which concentrates more on connecting to the community. The new building will be better suited to that goal, as well as the needs of our department, according to the Facebook post.
This project has been in the making for more than two years since the 2019 annual Town Meeting when voters approved the spending for a feasibility study and conceptual design for the renovation, expansion and/or replacement of the police station, according to a report from the Police Station Building Committee.
The total project estimate, according to the Sept. 2020 building committee report, is approximately $36 million. Construction is expected to be completed by the winter of 2022-2023.
