Shrewsbury Police Awarded $28K For New Equipment, Public Safety

SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Police Department announced on Tuesday that it was awarded $28,260 in grant funding for new equipment and public safety initiatives.

Shrewsbury police received the funding through the Byrne Justice Grant Program. The money will go toward crucial public safety initiatives in town and equipment upgrades for the police department, according to the police department.

A portion of the funding will go toward the Safety Net tracking system, according to police. This program helps law enforcement locate individuals with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other cognitive disabilities who may wander or become lost.

Shrewsbury police's Traffic Division will also receive commercial vehicle weight scales to support enforcement and compliance efforts. The funding will also go toward upgrades to crash reconstruction equipment.

The department will get two less-than-lethal projectile launchers and some new eye and ear protection for officers to use during firearms training.
