SOMERVILLE, MA — Work on the Union Square branch of the Green Line is 90 percent complete and is set to reopen on Monday, Sept. 19, the MBTA said.

The work includes noise wall construction, which is now 100 percent complete, and power testing, which will be completed this week.

The Green Line Extension (GLX) will extend the northern end of the Green Line from Lechmere to Union Square in Somerville and College Avenue in Medford.

"GLX will provide service in areas that historically did not have access to fast and reliable public transit,” the MBTA’s website says. "By supporting an increased ridership of more than 50,000 trips per day, this project will significantly reduce vehicle emissions on the road."

Free accessible shuttle buses replace service between Government Center and Union Square through Sunday, September 18. Accessible vans are also available upon request.
