Boston Comedy Festival in Somerville

Top comedy acts and cutthroat comedy competition are part of the festival, which is calling Davis Square home for a week.

The Boston Comedy Festival takes place around Boston, but mostly in Somerville, from Nov. 8 to 16.

The festival brings two things to Somerville.

First, there's the stand-up contest, where 96 aspiring comics compete against each other for a chance to make it into the finals and, ultimately, win the contest. Industry pros are in town all week scoping out the talent.

There are preliminary rounds all week, leading into semi-finals and, ultimately, the final round, which will be held Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. at Somerville Theatre.

Emmanuel Lewis, who played the famous TV character, Webster, will be receiving the lifetime achievement award.

Second, the festival brings top comedy acts to Somerville. Highlights of this year's festival include:

  • Kevin Meaney
  • Judah Friedlander
  • Funny Females hosted by Kelly MacFarland
  • Tommy Savitt
  • Lenny Clarke
  • John Rineman
  • Andy Kindler
