Everett Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murder Of Somerville Man

SOMERVILLE, MA — An Everett man previously found guilty of the October 2017 murder of Somerville's Kevin Raymond has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Somerville Police Department announced Thursday.
Tony Dyshaun Harris, 34, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Cathleen Campbell after being convicted of murder and being an armed career criminal.
On June 6, a Middlesex Superior Court jury found Harris guilty of murder, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

A subsequent bench trial was held, and on July 27, Judge Campbell found Harris guilty of being an armed career criminal, which was based on 2007 convictions for armed assault to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.
"We will not allow this kind of gun violence to go unchecked in Middlesex County," Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement after the sentencing. "As Harris' conviction on all of these charges illustrates, we have an unswerving commitment to prosecuting these cases. We will pursue every avenue to hold those defendants, such as Harris, who repeatedly engage in violence and threaten the safety of others, fully accountable."

According to court records, at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Oct 14, the Somerville Police Department received a call about shots fired in the area of Jacques Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, Raymond already had been transported to CHA Hospital, where he died of three gunshot wounds, according to authorities.
In a parking lot behind 20 Canal Lane, officers found a revolver and gold chain, which later were determined to contain Harris' DNA, authorities said.
According to reports, investigators were able to locate multiple videos that showed Harris driving a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle seen in the area of the murder.
Additionally, investigators were able to locate a video featuring Harris wearing a gold chain that matched the gold chain found in the parking lot at 20 Canal Lane, authorities said.
In addition to the revolver and chain both containing Harris' DNA, records showed that Raymond's blood was found in the vehicle that Harris was driving on the night of the shooting.
Harris was arrested on Nov. 3, 2017.
