Fast-growing Fitness Chain Making Its Way To Somerville
btone Fitness has 30 locations throughout the United States.

SOMERVILLE, MA — City leaders are slated to gather to cut the ribbon on a brand new fitness studio later this week.
btone Fitness is opening its 30th location at 158 Broadway in East Somerville. The company has 30 locations throughout the country, with a majority of them being in Massachusetts. The 2,300 square foot studio will be located inside the new Guild Apartment’s commercial space. The Guild is the city’s first net-zero carbon emission housing project, which opened in 2024 after a two-year construction process. It features an all-electric design. The property is owned and operated by Kara and William Bates.
Btone CEO and Founder Jody Merrill said that the couple are ideal partners for her business.

“This Somerville studio opening is an exciting one for the company and for me personally since it’s one of the first openings taking place in our 15th anniversary year,” Merrill said. “We’ve known for a long time that East Somerville would be an ideal market for btone Fitness given there’s nothing else like it here. When this space became available at street level in the Guild apartment building, we jumped at the opportunity to open in this exciting, new spot. Our location makes it easy for anyone including the residents above us to squeeze in a 45-minute total body workout.”
Mayor Jake Wilson will headline the attendees for the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m. The grand opening will be followed by an open house that will include refreshments and a fitness demonstration. Beginning on that Saturday through Monday, Jan. 18, the studio will be collecting donations from attendees and customers that will benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition.
