Man in Wheelchair Struck by Truck in Somerville

A man riding in a motorized wheelchair was struck by a pickup truck in Somerville Monday afternoon.

The accident took place at Central and Albion Streets, the Somerville Journal reports.

The motorist was driving down Central Street and the man in the wheelchair was traveling on the same street in the opposite direction. The collision happened when the man in the wheelchair abruptly changed direction.

The victim was transported to the hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The pickup driver, later identified as Wayne Stevens of Medford, said the wheelchair rider drove “right in front” of his truck.
