The road will be closed through 5 a.m. Wednesday, and traffic will be diverted through Sullivan Square to Rutherford Ave.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is planning to close portions of the Rte. I-93 southbound tunnel through Boston overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

The closure will begin at 11 p.m. Tuesday night and run through 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

As a result of the closure, traffic will be diverted from the Mystic Avenue off-ramp at Exit 28 to begin along a detour route. Traffic will be directed through Sullivan Square in Charlestown to Rutherford Avenue and follow to the Surface Artery Southbound before returning to the onramp from Albany Street at Herald Street and, subsequently, return to Rte. I-93 southbound, according to MassDOT.
