Monday Essentials: Pig Pickin', National Night Out

A look at essential things to know and do in Somerville this week. Lincoln Tech's Diversity Fair, the movie "Free Willy," and a Somerville art exhibit are also on the list.

1) Redbones Pig Pickin'
The Davis Square barbecue restaurant hosts an outdoor festival, complete with slow-cooked whole pigs and all the fixings, Monday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Chester Street. It benefits the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

2) 10th Annual National Night Out Against Crime and Drugs
Somerville Cares About Prevention and the Somerville Police Department host the annual event in Foss Park on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Somerville Sunsetters and Red Tiger Academy of Martial Arts will perform, and there will be a K9 demonstration along with other activities and information tables.

3) Lincoln Tech Diversity Fair
Food, entertainment, music, demonstrations, face painting and other fun activities are part of Lincoln Tech's Diversity Fair on Tuesday. This also benefits the Somerville Homeless Coalition. It's from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lincoln Tech's Somerville campus, 5 Middlesex Ave.

4) Free Willy
As part of SomerMovie Fest, "Free Willy" plays outdoors at the new Chuckie Harris park in East Somerville. It's Thursday just after sunset.

5) Entering Somerville-Opening Reception
The opening reception for the exhibit takes place at the Nave Gallery Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The exhibit features "art inspired by or created from the people, events and geography taking place in the 4.2 square miles that make up the City of Somerville, MA," according to the listing.
