National Dialogue on Race at Tufts University

Five things to know and do in Somerville on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013.

1) National Dialogue on Race
The Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Tufts University is hosting a forum tonight called, "The March on Washington 50th: Continuing the Call for Racial Equality in the 21st Century." The forum is open to the public, and it will include a number of distinguished panelists, including Michael Curry, president of the NAACP Boston; Kim McLarin, a novelist and assistant professor of writing at Emerson College; Diane McWhorter, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist; Kimberly Moffitt, a writer and professor of American studies at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County; John Stauffer, an author and chair of the History of American Civilization Department at Harvard University, and Paul Watanabe, an author and director of the Institute for Asian American Studies at UMass Boston. The forum is at 7 p.m. at the Cabot Intercultural Center, 170 Packard Ave.

2) Ward 3 Candidates Forum
So, I made a little mistake. Earlier this week I announced that a Ward 3 candidates forum, organized by Union Square Main Streets, was scheduled to take place on Tuesday. The mistake was due to a little email mixup. In any case, the forum is actually tonight. The forum will include candidates seeking the Ward 3 seat on the Somerville Board of Aldermen. A meet-and-greet with the candidates begins at at 6:45 p.m., and the forum begins at 7:30 p.m. It takes place at Somerville Community Access TV, 90 Union Square.

3) Somerville Adult Evening School Registration
You can register for Somerville Adult Evening School tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Somerville High School main office, 81 Highland Ave. You can also contact Sophia Carafotes, the principal, at (617) 628-2594, or you can register online at somerville.k12.ma.us/eveningschool.

4) Somerville Board of Aldermen
The Somerville Board of Aldermen meet tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

5) Weather
Today will partly cloudy with a high around 85.
