Update: Nothing to Substantiate Bomb Threat at Harvard University

5:30 p.m. UPDATE: All 4 buildings affected by Monday’s bomb threat have been thoroughly searched, determined to be safe, and reopened, according to university officials. Harvard Yard was re-opened by mid-afternoon.
Harvard university received an unconfirmed bomb threat via email on Monday morning that led to the evacuation of The Science Center, Sever, Emerson, and Thayer Halls. Harvard University Police Department and other law enforcement officials conducted a search of the four buildings.

Nothing to substantiate the emailed threat has been found as of 1:52 p.m. Monday, according to Katie Lapp, Harvard University executive vice-president in an update on Monday afternoon.
Harvard Police are working with local and federal law enforcement officials to investigate the source of the threat, which has not yet been determined.

“The safety and security of members of the Harvard community is always our top priority,” Lapp wrote. “In the wake of recent tragic events in locations ranging from Paris to Beirut and beyond, we understand that this type of threat will cause great anxiety for many across our campuses. We will continue to be vigilant as we carry on Harvard’s mission of expanding and disseminating knowledge.”
The search was expected to take several hours.
Meabwhile, 7News.whdh.com reported that the Cambridge Police Department also responded to an anonymous threat via email to the Cambridge Public School system on Monday. The threat indicated someone was planning to bomb the “Cambridge Mass City Schools,” according to Jeffrey Young, Superintendent of Schools in Cambridge.
