Obituary: Edward A. Ciampa, of Medford
Ciampa, who was at one point awarded the key to the City of Somerville, died on May 19.

Ciampa, Edward A., of Medford formerly of Somerville and Cambridge May 19.
Ciampa was elected in 1953 to the first of three terms on the Somerville School Board. In May of 1954, he was drafted to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon Discharge from the Army in 1957 Ciampa ran for the Somerville School Committee again from Ward 1 and was re-elected. He was elected for a third term in 1958 serving as Vice-Chairman in 1959 and Chairman in 1960.

Edward was appointed as an Assessor in 1962 and was elected to two four-year terms.
In 1974, he declined to seek re-election to any public office and retired to private life. He was awarded the Key to the City of Somerville upon his retirement from public office.

In 1978, Edward was appointed as City Treasurer and Collector of Taxes by then Mayor Thomas August.
He was also a member of the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission, a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, the Lions Club, as well as director of Caspar, an organization that combats substance abuse.
Beloved husband of Grace M. (Campana) Ciampa. Devoted father of Mark D. Ciampa and wife Toni Coviello-Ciampa of Medford and Michael F. Ciampa and wife Elisa Lucci of Wilmington. Grandfather of Tanya Rose and husband Ted of North Reading, Nannette Hayes and husband Will of Wakefield, Angelyn M. and Dean M. Ciampa both of Wakefield. Great Grandfather of Zakk, Nolan and Jerrick Rose. Brother of Carmela Rice of Woburn, Eleanor Castellano of Burlington and the late Robert, Dr. Frank, Ottaviano “Tut”, Dante “Danny”, Albert and Ubaldi Ciampa. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from The DeVito-O’Donnell Funeral Home 1145 Mass Avenue, ARLINGTON Friday morning at 10:15 followed by a funeral mass at11:30 in St. Clement Church, Somerville. Interment to follow Woodlawn Cemetery. Visiting at the Funeral Home Thursday 4:00 to 8:00pm.
