Somerville-based Gene Research Company Implements Large-scale Layoffs: Report (patch.com) — A Somerville-based biotech firm, Tessera Therapeutics, plans to lay off 90 employees, with nearly all cuts hitting its Somerville location. The reduction, set to take effect March 8, represents a significant share of the company’s workforce and could impact local lab, manufacturing, and automation operations in Boynton Yards.
   

2. Landmark Boston area music venue reaches agreement to avoid demolition (masslive.com) — Somerville’s beloved Burren pub and music venue in Davis Square has struck a deal to return to a new 26‑story mixed‑use tower planned for its current Elm Street site, but would shut down for up to two years. The project still needs approval from the Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals, and some musicians and patrons fear the long closure could permanently disrupt the venue’s tight-knit community.
   

3. The hunt for a stolen Jackson Pollock — and answers to a family's pain (washingtonpost.com) — A decades-long saga over three Jackson Pollock works stolen from a Cambridge professor’s home winds through art-world intrigue, organized crime, and federal investigations, with one painting still missing. Somerville appears as the base of the Winter Hill gang, tied to an early lead in the case, underscoring how local organized crime once intersected with high-end art theft.
   

4. Richard M. Kiley (nashuatelegraph.com) — Somerville readers are remembering Richard Michael Kiley, who was born, raised, and educated in Somerville before a distinguished 32-year Army career that took him around the world. He later settled in Nashua, NH, worked at the public library, and enjoyed summers in Maine. A funeral Mass will be held January 16 in Nashua, with military burial in New Hampshire this spring.
