Snarky Somerville Liquor Store Moves To Assembly Row

Sav-Mor Liquors, known for the witty jokes on its sign at the Somerville-Cambridge border, is moving. And a (smaller) sign's going with it.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Sav-Mor Liquors is taking its act on the road. But it isn't going far.

The liquor store-cum-comedy act has amused drivers on McGrath Highway with witty, oftentimes snarky jokes on its sign for more than a decade. It's now moving from its longtime home at the Somerville-Cambridge border to Assembly Row, where it's trading in its large marquee for a more subdued sign above the door.

That doesn't spell curtains for the laughs – a rendering of the new location has "Scotch means I love you in dad talk" over the door – but it does mark the end of the iconic sign. Robbie Weiner, whose family owns the local chain, told the Boston Globe the sign will "probably be destroyed," as it's too large for someone to keep.

Sav-Mor's new location at 325 Canal Street will open this week, according to the business's Twitter page.
