Somerville Colonial Fair In Need Of Volunteers
The Somerville Colonial Fair is held in April, and will feature a reenactment of Paul Revere's ride to warn patriots of a British attack.
SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville is looking for volunteers to help with community outreach, youth projects, and educating visitors at the Patriots’ Day Celebration and Colonial Fair.
The event is scheduled for April 17 at Foss Park, and will feature a reenactment of Paul Revere's ride to warn patriots of a British attack.
Volunteers of all ages can sign up for activities like working with youth to create drawings about the colonial fair, educating youth and visitors on what Somerville was like during colonial times, reading aloud short poems, and showing visitors how to play colonial games – such as Bilbo catchers, cat’s cradle, hoop rolling, and ring toss – according to the city’s website.

Somerville has encouraged volunteers to dress up in colonial-era clothing, but they are not required to. A limited selection of historical clothing will be made available for volunteers to borrow, or volunteers can make their own clothing using the following instructions and resources:
- Paper hat and neck ruffle patterns: You’ll find a pattern sheet from the JFK Library for both a paper traditional tricorner hat and paper neck ruffle (known as a cravat). You’ll need to download, print, cut-out, and either staple or tape.
- Instructional video: A video showing how to use the tricorner hat pattern.
For more information or to volunteer, the city asks those interested to contact Historic Events and Education Coordinator Brandon Wilson at his email, bwilson@somervillema.gov, or by phone at 617-776-3938.
