Somerville Community Celebrates Rudy's Final Days
The restaurant and bar closed after more than four decades of operation.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Rudy’s Cafe served its last customer this past weekend as the Tex-Mex restaurant closed its doors after more than 40 years.
Community members came from near and far to dine at the Teele Square staple before it shut down on Sunday, Jan. 19. Life-long Somerville resident Max Smith made it just in time for one least meal and margarita as he had dinner at Rudy’s on Saturday night.
“I’ve been going to Rudy’s my whole life. I will personally miss the Mexican Pizza the most,” Smith said. “While it’s upsetting to see it close, it was great to see the community come together and get their last meal at a place that clearly meant a lot.”

Saugus resident Larry Cultrera testified on Facebook how he had been a Rudy’s regular since it opened, and he too made one last trip to 248 Holland St. to the spot to say goodbye.
While the restaurant’s management did not provide the specific reason for its closure, it emphasized that it will be permanent.
