Somerville Community Land Trust Acquires First Affordable Homes
SCLT's first project brings five permanently affordable homes to the heart of Union Square.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville Community Land Trust (SCLT) celebrated their first property acquisition at 7 Summer Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 17.
Funded by the City of Somerville, the Somerville Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and Winter Hill Bank, SCLT’s first project brings five permanently affordable homes to the heart of Union Square.
"Every acquisition where we can introduce permanent affordability means that we’re giving a family a shot to stay here today, in 10 years, 20 years, and in 100 years,” said Elizabeth Haney, President of the SCLT Board of Directors "And 7 Summer Street is just the start, we want to see that over and over and over again."
