Somerville Cyclists Raise $187K in Pan-Mass Challenge

The annual cancer-fighting bicycling event broke its fundraising record this year with the help of 37 riders from Somerville, according to a blog post on Somerville Patch.

Somerville residents raised $187,800 for the Jimmy Fund, a cancer-fighting organization, in this year's Pan-Mass Challenge, according to a blog post on Somerville Patch.

The Pan-Mass Challenge is an annual bicycling event that raises money to support cancer treatment, and this year it took place on Aug. 3 and 4.

In all, 5,533 cyclists participated in this year's event, raising $39 million, a record, the blog says.

Of those riders, 37 were from Somerville, it says.

Averaged out, that means each Somerville cyclist raised about $5,075.

It says the 35th annual Pan-Mass Challenge is scheduled for Aug. 2 and 3, 2014. Online registration begins Jan. 15 at pmc.org.
