Somerville Homeless Coalition Celebrates 30 Years
The SHC served 2,105 people in 2015.

SOMERVILLE, MA - The Somerville Homeless Coalition is celebrating 30 years of service and did some great things in 2015.
When the coalition first opened its doors it was made up of only a few concerned citizens with six available beds, according to the SHC's annual report.
In 2015, the SHC served 2,105 people including 665 children from 995 households. The shelter and housing program helped 903 people last year and 1,202 people including 410 children were served through the SOUP program.

THe SHC wouldn't have been able to do it without without the help of the community. In 2015, 1,589 volunteers provided 2,499 hours of service.
Since only 69 percent of the the SHC's income comes from public funding they rely on private donations for the rest of their support.
