Somerville To Host Groundbreaking For Community Garden Expansion
Construction at Glen Park Community Garden is expected to take place through the winter. Find out how many new garden beds will be added.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The City of Somerville has announced details about a groundbreaking ceremony for the Glen Park Community Garden expansion project.
The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Nov. 20 at the garden site, located at 5 Palmer. All are welcome to attend. A rain date for the ceremony is noon on Nov. 21.
According to the City, J.J. Phelan & Son Co., Inc. has been contracted for the construction work, which is set to begin this month and take place over the winter.

The project, which is funded by Community Preservation Act dollars, is expected to include the addition of 18 new garden beds for community use and benefit, according to officials.
In 2018, the City purchased the 5 Palmer Ave. site using Community Preservation Act funds. In Sept. 2022, a community meeting was held where a final design was agreed upon.

This year, design consultant Wright Ostermier Landscape Architects (WOLA) worked to turn design concepts into construction-ready plans. The project went out to bid in September.
