• Committee approves $6 million for street and sidewalk reconstruction projects (thesomervilletimes.com) — Somerville’s Finance Committee just approved over $6 million for 2026 street and sidewalk reconstruction, including major work on West Pearl Street and several neighborhood roads. Councilors also accepted grants and gifts, shifted funds to cover overdue utility bills, and discussed future public safety funding and possible immigration-related conditions on federal grants, decisions that will shape city services and infrastructure in the coming year. 
• ‘A long time coming' – Winter Hill neighbors cheer start of Star Market demolition (thesomervilletimes.com) — Demolition of the long-vacant Star Market at 299 Broadway has begun, clearing the way for a major Winter Hill redevelopment with 288 apartments, retail, and new public spaces. With roughly half the homes planned as affordable units, city leaders and neighbors see the project as a key step toward easing Somerville’s housing crunch and revitalizing Broadway.
