Somerville To Host Sustainability Speaker Series This Fall

The three scheduled talks will take place Sept. 28, Oct. 17, and Nov. 14.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville Public Library and the City of Somerville SustainaVille initiative will host a sustainability speaker series this fall, showcasing perspectives on building equitable, sustainable, and resilient communities.

The three scheduled talks include:

  • Wednesday, September 28, at 7 p.m.
    • Andres Sevtsuk, MIT Associate Professor of Urban Studies & Planning and author of Street Commerce: Creating Vibrant Urban Sidewalks, will dive into urban street planning and how cities like Somerville are shaped by the ways commerce establishments intersect with city streets and sidewalks.
  • Monday, October 17, at 7 p.m.
    • Claudia Fox Tree from the Upstander Project will present a screening of First Light, a short documentary about the Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and lead a talk about Indigenous people’s rights to land and environmental justice.
  • Monday, November 14, at 7 p.m.
    • Jarred Johnson, Executive Director of TransitMatters, will discuss the importance of multimodal transportation and the future of public transit. TransitMatters advocates for plans and policies that promote convenient, effective, and equitable transportation for everyone in and around Boston.
