SOMERVILLE, MA — A 47-year-old man who had been on the run from authorities was arrested Friday after being discovered in the basement of a Somerville home, police officials said.

A “be on the lookout” advisory was first issued by police for Armelio in late December. According to the police, the arrest took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. last Friday when a resident of Cherry Street called the police to report the presence of an unknown man — who turned out to be Armelio — in their basement. Police quickly descended on the property and arrested Armelio without incident.

In addition to having 20 arrest warrants across the communities of Somerville, Cambridge, Boston, Lawrence, and the campuses of Tufts University and MIT, the 47-year-old is a person of interest in 12 recent breaking and entering cases in the vicinity of Somerville’s Powderhouse neighborhood. He has been positively identified in three of the cases thus far, while the others remain under investigation.
