The mission of the Municipal Scholarship Committee is to award scholarships to high school graduates.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The City of Somerville is seeking one new member for the Municipal Scholarship Committee, a three-year volunteer role that is open to all residents.

The mission of the Municipal Scholarship Committee is to award scholarships to high school graduates to use toward their higher education expenses. The funding for the scholarships comes from voluntary contributions made by Somerville taxpayers.

Scholarship Committee members develop a meeting schedule, review redacted scholarship applications, set criteria for scholarship awards, and make award recommendations.

The committee typically meets for a few hours a week over a four- to five-week period. Members are appointed by the mayor.

Applications are due by Friday, August 5. Interested residents should submit a statement of interest to treasury@somervillema.gov or Treasury Department, 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA 02143.
