Somerville To Open Temporary Warming Shelter For Unhoused People

The shelter will be open Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The City of Somerville and the Somerville Homeless Coalition have announced they will open a joint temporary Overnight Warming Center due to winter storm conditions, which are forecast to worsen overnight.

The shelter, located at the Armory building at 191 Highland Ave., is for those experiencing homelessness, and will be open Tuesday night starting at 6 p.m. until Wednesday morning at 7 a.m.

Walk-ins are welcome at any time and accommodations for guests’ pets are available, according to a news release.

Direct outreach to unhoused people is currently being conducted.

The City has urged people to call 911 if they see a person experiencing homelessness outside or sheltering in a car during this nor’easter.
