Somerville Police Working Toward Accreditation
The department has an appointment with the state's Accreditation Commission later this month.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Police Chief Shumeane Benford announced that the department has an upcoming evaluation scheduled with the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Becoming state-accredited is a voluntary designation police departments can choose to achieve. Somerville has been in “self-assessment” as it has been working internally to meet the nearly 400 standards set by the MPAC.
“Achieving accreditation is a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence,” Benford said in a press release.
