Somerville Providing Financial Aid For Preschool, Child Care

SOMERVILLE, MA — The city of Somerville is launching a new initiative to provide financial assistance for full-day preschool and child care.

To qualify, children must be between 15 months and 4 years old by Aug. 31, and families must meet income eligibility requirements outlined at somervillema.gov/somerpromise. Tuition assistance will be provided at child care programs that have partnered with the city of Somerville. Partners for the 2022-23 school year will be finalized in March.

The program was launched through the city's first major allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funding. The city is dedicating $7 million into direct child care through mid-2025.

This program will support 35 toddlers and preschoolers in the first year and grow to serve more than 100 children from infancy through school-age over the course of three years.

Applications are available at somervillema.gov/CCAAP. Printed applications can be provided upon request. Applications are due March 11.
