Somerville Veterans Commission Set To Relaunch After Years Of Inactivity
The city of Somerville is looking for five members to relaunch the project.
SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville is reestablishing its Veterans Commission and is seeking five members to relaunch the project, after being inactive for several years due to the pandemic.
The Veterans Commission maintains the custody and care of all monuments, memorials, and dedications in Somerville to commemorate the services of the soldiers, marines, and airmen who have served the country or the Commonwealth in war.
The commission will also develop policies and procedures for the construction and review of memorials, monuments, and hero square dedications.

The commission is made up of five members appointed by the mayor, with three members required to be veterans, and two who can be any qualified community member.
Meetings are set to begin in spring 2023 and will be held monthly for approximately two hours, with additional time expected at Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Members will serve as volunteers for one-, two-, or three-year terms with potential reappointment for a three-year term.
Interested community members are asked to send in applications by Friday, April 21.
