Somerville Schools Compete in City-Wide Track and Field Championships

Who will reign as Somerville's champion after the 24th annual Somerville Schools Track and Field Championships?

Middle- and elementary-school students from seven Somerville schools will compete Wednesday in the 24th annual Somerville Schools Track and Field Championships.

The event, for 7th and 8th graders, features nine track and field events, and students will compete as individuals and on teams, according to a description of the event from Somerville Public Schools.

One of the events, the 220-yard run, is for fifth and sixth graders.

The athletics competition begins at 3 p.m. at Somerville High School's Brune Fieldhouse Track, according to the school district.

Events include the 50-yard hurdles, the 50-yard dash, the mile, a 300-yard run, a 600-yard run, the 160-yard 4-by-1 relay, the shot put and the high jump.

Schools participating include the East Somerville Community School, the Healey School, the Kennedy School, the Argenziano School, the Next Wave School, the Winter Hill Community Innovation School and the West Somerville Neighborhood School.
