Somerville Tax Preparer Facing Charges For False Tax Returns Scheme

Yves Isidor was indicted for filing false federal tax returns for clients, leading to hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses to the IRS.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Somerville tax preparer is accused of preparing false tax returns in the names of taxpayers, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced on Tuesday.

Yves Isidor, 67, of Somerville was indicted by a federal grand jury on five counts of aiding and assisting in the filing of false federal tax returns. He was arrested on April 14 and was released on bond after an initial federal court appearance in Boston.

From at least 2012 through 2016, Isidor worked under the name Tax and Realty Pro as a Malden tax preparation business, according to the indictment. He filed more than 1,200 tax returns in the names of clients, and charged them between $100 to $500 for each return.

According to the indictment, Isidor added false information to the clients’ returns to claim deductions for medical and dental expenses, personal property taxes, gifts to charities, general sales taxes, and unreimbursed employee business expenses – all of which were fictitious.

Some taxpayers paid lower taxes than they owed and received refunds they were not entitled to, leading to hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses to the IRS, according to the indictment.

Isidor could face up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release, a $250,000 fine and restitution for charges of filing false federal tax returns.
