Somerville's Thirsty Scholar To Have Weeklong St. Paddy's Celebration

The pub will have shepherd's pie and corned beef & cabbage specials, a "History of Drinking" trivia night, an Irish trio, DJs and Guinness.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Though March has just started, The Thirsty Scholar Pub in Somerville is reminding folks that it's time to begin making plans for St. Patrick's Day, and for the days before and after St. Patrick's Day.

The pub, located at 70 Beacon St., has plenty going on between March 14-19.

During that week, The Thirsty Scholar will feature food specials: Shephard's Pie ($22), featuring ground lamb and vegetable gravy topped with parmesan-mozzarella mashed potatoes, and Corned Beef & Cabbage ($20), slow-cooked, fall-apart tender corned beef served with braised cabbage, potatoes and carrots.

The Thirsty Scholar also will feature Irish-themed events throughout the week.

  • March 14: Gather your mates for a "History of Drinking" trivia night, where Guinness will be in the house engravings mugs.
  • March 16: The pub's doors will open at noon, and at 7 p.m. Elias Cardoso will perform live Irish music. Guests can even bring their instrument and join in with the band.
  • March 17: Head over to the pub at 11 a.m. to watch the parade. DJ Black Mamba will take the stage from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
  • March 18: The Boston Harbor Bhoys, an Irish trio, will perform live from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again at night. DJ AJ Rose will be spinning tunes from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
