Somerville's Thirsty Scholar Hosting Super Bowl, Valentine's Events

SOMERVILLE, MA — For locals who are preparing for a Patriots-less Super Bowl and a partner-less Valentine's Day next month, the Thirsty Scholar Pub in Somerville has you covered.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 12, the Thirsty Scholar presents Wing It. The pub, located at 70 Beacon St., will have an evening of tailgate-style munchies.

A pitcher of beer costs $15, while wings can be purchased in plates of seven ($14), 15 ($25) and 30 ($42). The wings come in plain or slathered in your choice of buffalo, house BBQ, or sweet slap sauce.

There also is a $35 Sample Platter with game-day essentials, like six wings, tenders, mozzarella sticks and steak eggrolls.

"The Thirsty Scholar is gearing up for a Patriots-less Super Bowl Sunday by putting the focus on the real MVPs of the game: the snacks," the pub said in a statement.

Two days later, it's Valentine's Day, and the Thirsty Scholar is hosting speed dating at its Be Our Valentine Bash.

The event is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for singles ages 26 to 38. Tickets cost $36 to $42 and are available online. Each ticket includes a complimentary glass of beer or wine. All female attendees also will leave with roses and chocolates.

The local dating service Boston Single Mingle is hosting the event, which will feature ladies taking a seat and gentlemen shifting tables every five minutes, for a total of up to 15 dates.

"Ditch the coldness of dating apps and meet face-to-face with your potential future significant other," the Thirsty Scholar said in a statement.

Participants in speed dating will make check marks next to the names of people they like. The following day, those attendees with matching checkmarks will be notified to see if they want to explore the possibility of a "date in the real world."

Additionally, The Thirsty Scholar has several regularly scheduled events throughout the week. All feature free admission.

• Monday: Comedy Night, the 8 p.m. show is hosted by comedian Garrett Finn.
• Tuesday: $1 Oyster Night, beginning at 4 p.m.
• Select Tuesdays: Reggae Night is scheduled for several upcoming Tuesdays. The Conscious Reggae Band will perform during the event, which will be held on Jan. 31, Feb. 21, March. 7 and March 21.
• Wednesday: Trivia Night, at 7 pm. each week, Sporcle hosts the event where the winning team takes home a $50 gift card.
• Saturday: Live Music from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Upcoming performers are: Nico Rivers (Jan. 28), Michael Brennan (Feb. 4), Sam Chase (Feb. 11), Ryan Flynn (Feb. 18) and Ryan Pinette (Feb. 25).
