Sunday: Boston Symphony Orchestra Plays Somerville

Members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra are performing a free concert in Somerville Sunday afternoon.

Four members of the orchestra, as part of its Community Chamber Concerts series, will perform works from Mozart and Hindemith at the Kennedy School at 3 p.m.

It's part of an effort to bring high quality chamber music to communities throughout the Boston area. 

What's more, 17 student musicians from Somerville—members of the All-City Chamber Strings Ensemble—will open for the Boston Symphony Orchestra group, according to an announcement from the school district.

They'll be directed by Joanne Sadler, a string instructor who's performed with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the RTÉ National Orchestra of Ireland, The Ulster Orchestra and the Cirque d’Hiver Orchestre of Paris, the announcement says.

Here are the students who will be performing:

• Violin—Gave Silva, Sparsha Pun, Marisol Abreu, Henry Ayanna, Wen Chen, Dante Gulla, Midardley Joseph, Rezka Yuspi, and Flora Doremus
• Viola—Anoush Khan
• Cello—Ruth Grossman, Nathaniel Abreu, Joy Jarnigan and Gabrielle Mathews
• Double Bass—Graziella Oliveira, Samson Plaisted and Kevin Long

A word of warning: As of Friday afternoon the symphony's website said the performance was sold out. That said, you never know; tickets might be available at the last minute if there are no-shows.
