Herbstalk 2013
"Herbstal," says the listing, "is an educational event devoted to inspiring and empowering urban communities about the common and safe use of medicinal herbs." There's a market, workshops, kids activities, plant walks and more. It takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory.
Backyard Havens of the Somerville Garden Club: A Self-Guided Tour
Top Somerville gardeners are opening up their "backyard havens" to the public. Twenty gardens are part of the tour, which is organized by the Somerville Garden Club. The gardens range "from the charmingly petite to the astonishingly spacious [and] reflect the diverse interests of this dedicated club." The self-guided tour starts at 11 a.m. Sunday, and you can get tickets, starting at 10 a.m., at Davis Square Statue Park, near the MBTA.
Alice Mack and Kathleen Walcott will discuss African American history in Somerville. The talk is at the Somerville Museum at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

"Proust and Joyce at the Majestic": A One-Act Play by Debbie Wiess
The listing says the production "explores what may or may not have happened at a celebrated dinner party which took place May 18, 1922, at Paris' Majestic Hotel in which 5 of the greatest living legends of the times, Proust, Joyce, Stravinsky, Diaghilev and Picasso, were all special guests." It's Saturday at 2 p.m. at Somerville Community Access Television.
What Makes a City Grow: a Tale of Two Cities
This is an original musical performance for kids. It begins 10 a.m. Saturday at the Union Square Farmers Market. Here's a description of the show from the listing: "Two children, Dorothy and Toto, move to Somerville when their mother gets a job as a teacher. Dorothy and Toto suddenly learn some shocking news from the friendly bugs and birds who live in a largely unseen world. They tell them that Mr. Krabbs, an evil developer, has an outrageous plan that threatens everyone's health and happiness. Quickly, the 'two cities' learn to work together to ensure that Somerville stays green and growing in all the right ways!"
