This Weekend in Somerville: PorchFest, Doggie Spring Fling, ASSEMBLED and More

There's a ton happening in Somerville this weekend. Don't miss out.

PorchFest
The third annual PorchFest takes place Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Over 100 bands will be playing on porches throughout the city. Check out this map to plan your PorchFest itinerary. 

Somerville Dog Spring Fling
Som|dog, Somerville's dog group, is hosting the first ever Spring Fling on Sunday. The party will include dog-related activities, vendors, a dog treat bake-off contest, a doggie fashion show, live music, a "kiddie corner" with crafts and face painting, and consultations with local trainers and behaviorists. Also, there will be a beer garden with craft beer. It's in Union Square from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ASSEMBLED: The Handmade Arts Market at Assembly Row
This new market of handmade arts kicks off on Satuday in Assembly Row. It takes place on Saturdays throughout the summer and also features food trucks and music. You can learn more about the festival here and see the summer's schedule of markets here. It's all day at 1 Assembly Square Dr.

Tibet Arts and Culture Festival
This festival features Tibetan poetry, music, painting, poetry, food and more. It takes place Friday at The Center for Arts at the Armory at 6 p.m.

17th Annual Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle
This road race and series of boat races benefits the Mystic River Watershed Association, which works to make the Mystic River a cleaner and more beautiful resource for everyone. In addition to the races, there will be boating classes in canoes, kayaks and on paddle boards. There will also be food, music and children's activities. Registration for races begins at 8 a.m., but there's stuff happening most of the morning. It's Sunday at 32 Shore Dr. in Somerville.

Comedy: Kevin McDonald and more
Kevin McDonald from "Kids in the Hall" will be at Johnny D's Saturday night along with Ken Reid and ImprovBoston. It starts at 6:45 p.m.

Trash Bash: Somerville's First Recycled Arts Competition
This competition is open to the public and features art made from recycled items, a.k.a. junk and trash. There will also be music and workshops. It's Sunday at The Center for Arts at the Armory beginning at 11 a.m.

Kids to Parks Day
Part of a national series of events, Kids to Parks Day will feature children's activities, parkour, Somerville Youth Football registration and Shobu Aikido demonstrations. It's free and open to the public, and it takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Hodgkins-Curtin Park near Davis Square.

Spring Book Sale
The book sale benefits the Friends of the Somerville Public Library. This year's collection of books features lots of history, biography, arts, foreign language and fiction. It's at the Somerville Public Library on Saturday from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Yard Sale at Brown School
The yard sale will help 6th graders participate in Nature's Classroom. It's Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Benjamin G. Brown School.

10th Annual Save Our Homes Walk
The Save Our Homes Walk aims to raise money to provide mini-grants to families who are at risk of becoming homeless. Organized by the Affordable Housing Organizing Committee of Somerville, this 5K walk kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday at Somerville High School.

Call for Subjects on the Red Carpet
The listing says this is "an event to capture street fashion in Union Square." It goes on to describe the project: "Somerville Arts Council Fellowship Grant recipient, Danielle Festa, invites the public to pose on a red carpet laid out in Union Square, as she searches for subjects for her upcoming paintings. The paintings will be featured in an outdoor exhibition, at the same location, on October 12, 2013." It's your chance to pose on the red carpet in your street clothes. It's Saturday at 11 p.m. outside 66 Union Square.

Writers from Pink Narcissus Press
"The Pink Narcissus Press," according to the listing, "is a local publisher of quirky fantasy and other speculative fiction." The publisher and several of its authors will be at The Book Shop at 3 p.m.

Free Ultimate Bootcamp in Somerville
This free fitness class takes place Saturday at 10 a.m. in Assembly Row (near Draw Seven Park).
