SOMERVILLE, MA — Todd Easton has entered the race for Somerville City Council in Ward 5. Easton, a stay-at-home dad, is a youth sports coach, volunteer and local arts promoter.

"Somerville is our home. It's where my wife Debbie and I have raised our three children," Easton said. "It's where I saw students learn through arts and sports, beyond the classroom and with the diversity of culture that makes this place so special. It's where I have watched our neighbors change and our community grow, and where I have been inspired to give back. Now, I hope to serve as Ward 5 City Councilor to make a real, practical impact on the issues that we care about the most: equity and opportunity, transportation and traffic, community-friendly development, and affordability."

Easton is heavily involved in the Somerville community. He coaches soccer and baseball with Somerville Youth Sports; volunteers in his children's classrooms with Food for Free, a weekend lunch-bag program with the Somerville Public Schools; promotes local engagement through the Somerville Arts Council; and works to address food insecurity through Jewish Family & Children's Services Family Table.

Easton said Somerville must have "long-overdue conversations" about education, food and housing security, and government efficiency. His platform includes the following:

  • Future development will be subject to extensive community input as we grapple with breadth and scale, including existing local businesses.
  • Somerville's transportation, traffic and parking master plans will be viewed through a new lens and prioritized as equitable, inclusive and safe.
  • Somerville's diverse artist community, which was integral in contributing to the City’s vibrancy, creativity and humanity, will be supported through consideration in the planning process and creation of a cultural community development corporation.
