Major Bike-A-Thon Will Pass Through Sudbury In September

A portion of the 105 and 63-mile Bikes Not Bombs routes include a section in Sudbury for the Boston nonprofit's 37th event.

SUDBURY, MA — A major fundraising bike ride will pass through Sudbury in 2024, winding through neighborhoods north of the Boston Post Road.

The Boston nonprofit Bikes Not Bombs will host its 37th fundraising ride on Sept. 8. The fundraiser includes several different routes, but only the 63 and 105-mile routes will pass through Sudbury along Concord Road, Newbridge Road, Water Row and Lincoln Road.

According to organizers, the riders will likely trickle through town throughout the day on Sept. 8. Because each rider goes at their own pace, residents won't see a large group of riders packed together. There won't be any viewing areas set up along the route in Sudbury.

Bikes Not Bombs got its start in 1984 out of a bike shop in Jamaica Plain. The nonprofit takes unwanted bikes, fixes them, and gives them to people in need locally and across the world. The annual bike-a-thon is a major source of funds, generating $195,000 in 2023. This year's bike-a-thon has a goal of raising $230,000, and anyone interested in joining can sign up here.

The Sudbury Select Board still has to formally approve the route through town, although the fire, police and public works departments have all approved.
