District Could Save $2 Million Total Thanks to LSRHS Solar Canopy Approval
Initial savings are expected to be around $100,000 and over the life of the equipment that number will likely be in the millions, school officials said.
Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School officials approved the installation of a solar canopy over the school's main parking lot this week, a move they said could save the district $2 million over the life of the contract.
According to Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School Committee chairman Radha Gargeya, the committee voted unanimously at its regular meeting on Tuesday to approve the installation of a 1.27 megawatt solar canopy,
The approval is pending the successful negotiation of an amended contract with SunEdison.
"The array will be a net metering system that in the first year will yield approximately $100,000 in energy savings for the District," said Gargeya.
In addition, Gargeya said that over the 20-year life of the contract, the district projects that it will reach more than $2 million in energy savings.
Assuming the contract is agreed to as expected, construction will begin when Lincoln-Sudbury students are released for the summer.
