LSRHS Much Improved 'Field of Nightmares' Set to Re-Open This Spring

Spring is just around the corner, and for the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School softball program, it's a particularly exciting time of year this time around.

The school is set to open the L-S Community Softball Field at the high school, a field that has been completely revamped thanks to volunteers from throughout the community.

On Friday, April 4, prior to the team's opening game against Framingham High School, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the Warriors' new home field.

The initiative to rebuild the field began about two years ago when Friends of Lincoln-Sudbury Softball was formed.

"The organization’s initial priority was to establish a 'level playing field' for the female softball players at L-S," the group said in a press release. "The journey to the new Community Field is a life 'civics lesson' for our community. The initiative started with the simple premise of safety, equity, and equality for female student athletes."

In addition to the Opening Day festivities, residents of the community are also invited to participate in another softball activity that is on the horizon. The annual Girls' Softball Night will be held on Friday, May 2, at Featherland Field. There will be food, a silent auction and more prior to the night's game.

Warrior softball players are looking forward to the season ahead, hoping to make a run at the playoffs. But almost as importantly, the team is excited to have a home field they can be proud of.

"The condition of the L-S Softball field was a safety issue and not at parity with the other athletic fields at L-S," FOLSS said. "Prior to the rebuilding of the L-S Community Softball Field, the girls played on 'a field of nightmares.'"
