MAYNARD, MA — A puppy trapped in a burning Maynard home emerged safely early Tuesday morning, according to the fire department.

The fire broke out just before 12:30 a.m. in a home along Little Road, the fire department reported. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming out of one side of the home. The residents and another dog were outside when firefighters arrived.

But a puppy living in the home did not escape with the family. A Maynard police officer tried to get inside to reach the pup, but the smoke was too thick. But firefighters from Acton were able to find the puppy after entering the home. The dog was given water and oxygen, but was otherwise unhurt.
