Shrewsbury Estate Gold Coins Stolen, Pawned, Dealer Sentenced: Report
A man was sentenced in connection to pawning fraudulently obtained gold coins from a Shrewsbury estate.
SHREWSBURY, MA - An antiques dealer from Connecticut who admitted to pawning $115,000 in gold coins he stole from a Shrewsbury estate was sentenced to a year of home confinement, according to the Telegram & Gazette.
William Dawson, 51, was sentenced following a hearing Wednesday in Worcester District Court. Prosecutors accused him of being a "lifelong fraudster." Dawson attempted to purchase 120 Queen Elizabeth II Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins for nearly $198,000 from a Shrewsbury estate, but the check he provided led to a bank account with "significantly less," according to prosecutors.
