Sudbury Police Advise Motorists to Still Avoid Landham Road

The following is from Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix:

Many may be aware Landham Road is now open, although there is work remaining.  The intent is to have both lanes remain open during commuting times then reduce to one lane to facilitate the completion of the project.  Therefore, it remains beneficial to seek an alternative route during weekdays for the next week or so.  The detour will be discontinued to allow the previously affected detour route to return to some normalcy.

I want to thank the residents for their tolerance and patience during this process, particularly residents affected by the detour.  We tried to maintain a presence to mitigate improper driving while ensuring the safety of all during the start of school. 

With Landham Road now open we will monitor the area to remind motorists to drive appropriately and enforce necessary violations when observed.

I would also like to thank the contractors who understood the pressure put on them to complete the project in an expedited manner, to include Celco Construction Corporation and Peters Excavation.  Projects as such are not truly understood until you delve into them.  Many obstacles presented themselves throughout the process that were overcome without full comprehension by affected residents/motorists.  I understand everyone’s frustration and my officers often took the brunt of that frustration but we tried facilitate a tremendous amount of traffic as best we could, continually adjusting from lessons learned.  To the contrary of what some have opined, the project progressed as best as could be accomplished given the task before them.  The failure of the affected portions of Landham Road was unexpected but imperative to repair to prevent an even longer repair process and/or injury. Again, I thank the residents for their patience and understanding as we ventured through the detour/construction.  I also want to thank my officers and contractors for their efforts.  I apologize for the inconvenience as we are as happy as you the project approaches its conclusion.
