January 1, 2025 – New Year’s Day- The Senior Center will be closed.

Winter I Session for Fitness Classes

Fitness Registration period opens up on Monday, December 23rd and will run until Friday, January 3rd. Registration for all fitness classes will take place during this period. All payments must be received before the start of classes on January 3rd. Most fitness classes in this session, will run from January 3rd to February 14th and are typically 6 weeks in length. NEW In-Person Chair Yoga Class for Winter I Fitness Session

There will be a new In-Person only (no Hybrid) Chair Yoga class being offered in January. You may sign up for this class OR the Hybrid class offered on Fridays (no changes to Friday class format or time). The NEW In-person session will run from Thursday, January 9th to Thursday, February 13th (6 weeks) with a fee of $36.00. There is a class limit of 16 persons. Class times are 9:15 AM – 10:00 AM. Drums Alive – Change in Schedule

Drums Alive class will be offered on a NEW day and time in January for our Winter I session. The new day and time for this class is Tuesdays starting on January 7th to February 11th from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. This will still be a 6-week session and the fee for the class remains unchanged at $36.00. Sudbury Connection Van Trip to Target

Get ready to go shopping at Target in Marlboro on second Monday of the month. The next trip will take place on Monday, December 9th. Pick up time is 11:30 AM and you will be able to shop from 12:00 - 1:00 PM. Pick up times are approximate. If you are a registered Van Rider, please contact the MWRTA Reservation Center to schedule your Target trip at (508) 820-4650. New participants must register to ride the van by contacting Jill Dube at (978) 639-3268 or dubej@sudbury.ma.us.

Holiday Luncheon

Kick off the holiday season with your friends at the Senior Center! Come join us for a fun and festive luncheon, catered by Buffet Way where you will be served a special holiday meal, followed by pie and coffee. Enjoy your meal and spread holiday cheer while you relax and enjoy some holiday music. The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, December 10th from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM and there is a suggested $5.00 donation at the door.

iPhone Workshop – Important Tools of the iPhone

Back by popular demand, this workshop is being offered for a second time. This class covers different tools and services built in the iPhone. Topics include, Emergency SOS, Siri, and numerous different tools found in the Control Center. You will also learn how to customize the phone to make these tools more accessible. Boxwood Tree Decorating Workshop

The Sudbury Garden Club will be hosting a “Build Your Own Boxwood Workshop” where you can make a tree for your home or to give as a gift. The cost of the workshop is $35.00 and it includes a full-sized boxwood tree and all the supplies and decorations necessary to complete the project. **Bring Clippers if available**

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 11th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Pathway’s Coffee Hour

The Pathway’s Coffee Hour takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 2:00 PM at the Sudbury Senior Center. Springwell is delighted to host a monthly Pathways Coffee Hour where members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies can gather in person to enjoy coffee, pastries, conversation and community! Lunch & Learn: Heart Health with Nurse Katie Betts

Attend the Health and Safety talk and learn from BOH Nurse Katie Betts, where she will be discussing Heart Health. Heart attacks can spike around snow season from shoveling and from indulging in not so healthy foods around the holidays. The lunch and learn event will be held on Thursday, December 12th with lunch at 12:00 PM and the talk starting at 12:30 PM. Meet Jill Dube

We are pleased to introduce our new Assistant Director/Outreach Coordinator, Jill Dube. Jill started in October and is here to provide information and assist with many different needs including transportation options, fuels assistance, housing, home health care, care giver support and much more. Stop by the Senior Center on Friday, December 13th from 9:30 AM — 10:30 AM to meet Jill and enjoy a cup of coffee with her. Welcome Jill!

Joy of Watercolor with Angela Ackerman

Workshop with Angela Ackerman entitled: Warm & Cool Colors. Topics to be covered are warm and cool color palettes and learning how juxtaposing them with intention will create more contrast and drama in your paintings. All levels are welcome. Veterans Assistance Talk

Free home care assistance for veterans- Are you eligible? As a veteran, you may qualify for free home care services. Denise Roskamp, Owner and President of Home Helpers of MetroWest, a Veteran Approved Provider, will present a talk geared to Veterans outlining this tremendous benefit. In addition, Denise will describe what steps to take to determine your eligibility and how to enroll through the Veteran’s Administration system. Come prepared with questions and learn how you may be eligible for free home care services! The talk will be held on Tuesday, December 17th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Photography Discussion Group

Interested in Photography? So are we! Come help us share that wonderful world with others whether it be via Smart phone, DSLR or mirrorless camera. Beginners and Pros are all welcome! Please join us as we explore this multilayered subject of photography. This group meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. iPhone Workshop- Staying in touch with your iPhone

This class will focus on using the iPhone to stay in touch with friends and loved ones. We will learn about sending messages, managing contacts on our iPhones, and setting up video calls in FaceTime. We also learn how to use Siri to make calls and send messages. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 17th from

AI Tech Talk

Join us for a beginner-friendly course explaining the basics of AI. You'll learn about its history, key ideas and how it's used in the real world. This class is perfect for anyone curious about AI, whether you're a tech lover or just interested in learning something new. The workshop will be held on Thursday, December 19 from

Drop-In Coloring/Puzzles

Drop in on Thursday, December 26th as well as Friday, December 27th from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM for some low- key activities such as coloring and puzzles at the Senior Center Lounge. No sign-ups necessary. Come, unwind, relax and enjoy some quiet time after the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

Year in Review

Join us for an informal gathering on Monday, December 30th from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM where you will meet with director Deb Galloway and Program and Publicity Coordinator Palig Garabedian to review some of the activities/events of the past year and discuss possible future activities. Try the new Sudbury Transportation Services

Sudbury has two new transportation options: Catch Connect Sudbury and the Sudbury-Wayland Boston Hospital Shuttle. Catch Connect is available Monday-Friday, 12:00-6:00 PM and can get you around town and to Target in Marlborough. Call (508) 283-5083 to register or download the “MWRTA Catch” app to use the service.

The Sudbury-Wayland Boston Hospital Shuttle provides service to Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Longwood Medical Area and Mass General Hospital on Tuesdays – Thursdays. Reserve at least 24 hours in advance by calling (508) 820-4650.

Try out these new pilot services – they are fare free and funded through June 2025. Let us know what you think by completing our short survey online at: Transportation Survey or ask for a paper survey at the Sudbury Senior Center. Walk-in Tech Help

The Senior Center is offering Walk-in Tech Help on Thursdays in December from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Do you have a quick question about your phone, tablet, computer, or other device? Tech Volunteer Patrick C. is here to help! No appointment needed, just bring your device and charger.

Sudbury Desi Senior Chai & Chat

A meet up for South Asian Americans to connect with each other and welcome others to join them! Everyone is welcome to join us for tea, conversations and camaraderie. Sign up if you’re interested in joining. We always play Bingo at the end of the meeting – bring $1.00 exact change if you’d like to participate. Come meet your neighbors! The next meeting for the group will take place on Friday, December 6th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Drop-In Ping Pong

Play Ping Pong every Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM the Sudbury Senior Center. First come first serve. Stop by to play and sharpen your reflexes and have fun at the same time. All are welcome to join in. Sign-in at the front desk.

Sudbury Senior Trips 2024

The Reagle Music Theatre “Christmas Time” with lunch at The Chateau. Join us on this last day trip of the 2024; for a delightful day excursion to Waltham, MA where you will have a delicious lunch at The Chateau in Waltham before a Christmas Show that is sure to get you in the Holiday Spirit! The group will enjoy a 2:00pm performance of the Reagle Music Theatre’s 2024 edition of “Christmas Time”. This trip includes transportation, reserved seats at the theatre, lunch, taxes and gratuities. Departure will be from the Sudbury Senior Center at 10:30AM. Estimated time of return is 5:00PM. Circle of Friends and Caregiver Support Group

The Sudbury Senior Center partners with Orchard Hill Assisted Living to offer a community engagement program for persons with dementia, providing activities and socialization, while their care partners attend a monthly Support Group. The Caregiver Support Group is hosted by Facilitator Susan Maki and runs concurrently. The programs are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 2:00-3:30 PM at Orchard Hill Assisted Living. Space is limited and registration is required by leaving a message for Jill Dube, our Assistant Director/outreach Coordinator, at (978) 639-3268 or email at dubej@sudbury.ma.us

Low Vision Support Group

We are happy to share that our low vision participants will be meeting in person at the Senior Center. The group meets on the first Thursday of the month at 1:00 PM. You must sign-up in advance by calling the Sudbury Senior Center at (978) 443-3055.

Walk-in Blood Pressure Clinic

Katie Betts, Sudbury Board of Health nurse, will be at the Sudbury Senior Center on Thursdays, from 10:30 – 11:30 AM. Stop by to get your blood pressure checked weekly. The nurse is available to talk to you about your health concerns.

Current Events – Hybrid group

Please feel free to join the group for a respectful discussion of world events where each person has an opportunity to contribute. Group meets every Thursday on-site and via Zoom from 10:00—12:00 PM. Chess for All

The chess group meets on Wednesdays from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM. All ages are invited and encourage to play. Have you always wanted to learn how to play? Now is your chance. Our Group leader Dick Gariepy will provide low key beginner instructions. This is a drop-in group for all levels whether you are experienced or just beginning. Join this friendly group.

Stamp Club

Would you be interested in meeting other stamp collectors? Do you want to share your collection with other philatelists or sell and buy some stamps? Did you collect when you were young and have now retired and thinking of starting up collecting again? If you have a stamp collection collecting dust in the attic, we will gladly take it off your hands. The Sudbury Senior Center Stamp club meets at 10:00 AM on the 2nd Monday of every month. We will meet in Room 2. Please join us. Due to the Veteran’s Day holiday on November 11th, the November Stamp Club meeting will be held on Monday, November 18th.

Sudbury Senior Center Grief Support Group

A Grief Support group will meet monthly on the first Tuesday of the month from 10:00 - 11:30 AM. All are welcome. Registration is required by calling Jill Dube, Asst. Director/Outreach Coordinator, at (978) 639-3268 or dubej@sudbury.ma.us. Group facilitator is Jane Benger, Chaplain at Faith & Family Hospice. Sudbury Connection Van Service

The Sudbury Connection Wheelchair Accessible Van Service, offered in conjunction with the Metro West Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA), operates Monday-Friday, five (5) days a week (excluding holidays) from 8:45 - 4:00 PM (last pickup at 3:30PM). Residents 60 years of age and older, as well as residents who have a disability are eligible for this service. If you would like to register, please contact the Senior Center for an application or go to: https://sudbury.ma.us/transportation/documents/ to access the application form directly. Van fees are $1.00 in town rides each way; $2.00 for out-of- town rides each way. Making Memories Café

Attend the Memory Café at the Sudbury Senior Center on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 2:00 PM. Bring your loved ones with memory loss to enjoy refreshment, uplifting entertainment or an activity and companionship with others. These events are perfect opportunities for you to take a break, socialize with other family caregivers and simply enjoy spending time with your loved one. Cribbage

Uber Technology Support

We are excited to offer Uber Tech support by phone, remotely or in-person. The Senior Center’s Technology Support Volunteers will assist eligible clients with issues relating to how to download and use the Uber application on their smartphone for use in the subsidized Go Sudbury! Uber Program.

This support is by appointment only. If you are interested in having the new Uber Guide emailed to you or want to register for a one-on-one consultation, please contact the Sudbury Senior Center at (978) 443-3055. Due to limited availability, this program is for Sudbury residents.
