Cannabis Shop Wants To Open In Swampscott

Terpene Journey LLC has leased space in Vinnin Square and has started the formal permitting process with Swampscott officials.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott officials have had plenty of inquiries from business owners that want to sell recreational cannabis in town, but only one formal application. Terpene Journey LLC is owned by Swampscott residents Tom Bogacz and Justin Eppley and has leased space in Vinnin Square. Bogacz and Eppley have met with Swampscott Police Chief Ronald Madigan, economic development director Marzie Galazka and other town officials.

The business would still need approval from the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Board, and would then need to enter a host municipality agreement with Swampscott officials. Terpene Journey would also need to hold community outreach meetings before applying for local approval, according to Wicked Local North of Boston, which first reported this story.. Towns and cities can add up to a three percent local sales tax on recreational marijuana sales.

In 2016, 53 percent of Swampscott voters voted in favor of the ballot initiative that legalized recreational marijuana sales in Massachusetts.
