Dr. Carl Albert Costanza Jr. Remembered In Swampscott

Dr. Costanza was a Swampscott resident who led a family dentistry practice for 58 years.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Carl Albert Costanza, Jr. of Swampscott died peacefully at home in the loving arms of his family on March 3, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of Lorraine Costanza with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.

He was the son of Yolanda and Carl A. Costanza Sr. of Revere

He was the father of Lorrie D'Alelio and husband John of Swampscott and Lianne Stati and husband Dino of Swampscott. He was the brother of Edmond Costanza and his wife, Grace, of Lynnfield and the late Adrian Costanza and his wife, Barbara, of Swampscott.

He graduated from Revere High School, Class of 1947 before attaining his undergraduate degree at Boston College, Class of 1951. Following this, he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University in Chicago, graduating in 1966. He serves in the Air Force as a captain stationed at Hickham Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Carl and his family were members of Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead since 1960 where they enjoyed many family events and friendships. Carl practiced family dentistry where he specializad in working with children for more than 58 years, retiring at age 85.

He treasured all of those who took part in his practice, especially, Bonnie, who worked by his side for 63 years and was the third daughter to him, as well as his nephew, Craig, who took over the dental practice after retirement.

Through his practice, he built a loving community in which he was known for his gentile, kind and patient ways.

Carl was called by many names, such as Dad, Carlos, Grampy, Peeps, Uncle and DOc. He was a lover of many hobbies, including baseball, gardening, golf, and most importantly, watching his grandkids at sporting events, most recently, "Go Spartans and Islanders Hockey!"

He was devoted to his wife, Lorraine, until her passing in 2002. He was elated to welcome his grandchildren, Emily Generazzo, of Sarasota, Fla., Julia and Alyssa Stati, of Swampscott, and Jack, whom he lived with. He was the loving uncle to Dr. Craig Costanza and wife Libby of Danvers, Caren D'Agnese and husband Steve, of Rowley, Guy Costanza and the late Joe Costanza, both of Lynnfield. He was the great uncle of Alex and Matthew Costanza, Marco D'Agnese and Youlanda Costanza.

Carl supported his immediate and extended family in every way possible, including at dance recitals, horse shows, softball games, hockey tournaments, high school and college graduations and was the much-appreciated chauffeur to any and all events. He was ultimately the most generous, kind and unselfish soul and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 8, from 4-8 p.m. at the Solimine Funeral Home,67 Ocean St., (Route 1A) in Lynn. His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 9 at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey Street, Swampscott at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his member to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 and to MSPCA-Angell, Attn. Donations, 350, South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
