Essex County Clerk Of Courts Tom Driscoll Claims Victory In Primary
The Swampscott Democrat held off a challenge from Salem's James Doherty.
SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott Democrat Tom Driscoll said he was turning his attention to the general election on Wednesday morning after claiming victory amid a primary challenge from Salem's James Doherty in the race for Essex County Clerk of Courts.
Driscoll has served in the position since 2001.
"I want to thank the voters in tonight's Democratic primary for putting their faith in me to continue to serve as their Essex County Clerk of Courts," Driscoll said. "We're going forward to the general election, and make no mistake, it is the most important election of our lifetime. We must
elect Democrats up and down the ballot to ensure justice, fairness, and transparency in our courts and throughout our government."

Driscoll said he is thankful for his family's support during the campaign, his volunteers, and wished Doherty well after the challenge.
"I know how difficult it is to run for office, and he made this a better campaign by talking about the issues that matter to all of us," Driscoll said.

Driscoll previously served as an Assistant District Attorney in Essex County, was a member of the Swampscott Select Board and Retirement Board, as well as a youth sports coach in his hometown.
