ICE Files Detainer Against Dominican Suspect In North Shore Sandwich Shop Owner Killing
Eric Dionida German-Pena, 25, was charged last week in the killing of Crazy Buzzy's owner Ilias Mavros.
SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A Lynn man charged last week in the killing of North Shore restaurant owner Ilias Mavros entered the United States illegally from the Dominican Republic in 2022, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE said it filed an immigration detainer against Eric Dionida German-Pena, 25, after he was charged in the killing of Mavros during an apparent home-invasion robbery last Monday night.
"Eric Dionida German-Pena will have his day in court, but he stands accused of a very serious and disturbing crime against a member of our Massachusetts community," said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. "ICE Boston takes its public safety mission extremely seriously — which is why we've lodged an immigration detainer against him with Lynn police."

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said German-Pena was to face murder charges in the death of Mavros, 48, of Lynn, who owned Crazy Buzzy's Roast Beef & Seafood.
Lynn police said they responded to a Stanwood Street home last Monday night for a well-being check at the request of a family member and found Mavros dead with apparent signs of trauma.

Mavros was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has charged him with murder, and with the cooperation of the Lynn District Court, we intend to take him into ICE custody after he has paid his debt to society," Hyde said. "ICE Boston will continue our mission of arresting and removing egregious alien offenders from New England."
ICE said it discovered that German illegally entered the United States in September 2022.
