The Swampscott Police Department has a disposal box at the CVS year-round but only pill-form medication is accepted there regularly.
Residents are urged to bring their medications for safe disposal as old medications can get into the wrong hands in the household and into groundwater supplies if placed in the trash or flushed down the toilet.
