Prosecutors: Swampscott Mother was Beaten to Death

Prosecutors said Thursday that Jason Fleury assaulted and beat Swampscott mother Jaimee Mendez to death.
Fleury, 37, pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder during his arraignment at Salem Superior Court. He was ordered held without bail, according to WHDH. Few other details were revealed during the arraignment.

Following the hearing, Mendez’ mother, Michelle Murray-Mendez told reporters that she planned to be in court every day of the trial in hopes of getting some answers.
“I don’t want the guy dead because that’s where my daughter is, I don’t want him there,” Murray-Mendez said. “The best thing for him to do is to stay alive 100 years and suffer every day.

“He ruined my life also. Her life isn’t the only life he took.”

Mendez, 25, was last seen on Nov. 6, 2014. Her remains washed ashore on Swampscott’s King’s Beach in January.
Fleury, a registered Level 3 sex offender, admitted he had seen Mendez the day she disappeared but denied any knowledge of her whereabouts.
Mendez left behind a young son.
