The man accused of killing 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez is on his way back to Massachusetts to face murder charges.
Jason Fleury was arrested Tuesday in Virginia. The Essex District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that he has waived extradition and is enroute back to the Bay State.
Fleury is expected to be arraigned Thursday at Salem Superior Court on charges he murdered Mendez. Mendez disappeared Nov. 6, 2014, leaving behind her young son. Her skeletal remains were found washed ashore on Swampscott’s King’s Beach in January.
While the DA’s office has not confirmed it, numerous media outlets have reported that the man police arrested in Virginia is one in the same as a Jason Fleury who, at the time of Mendez’ disappearance, was registered in Lynn as a Level 3 sex offender.
In November, the Lynn Daily Item reported that a man by the name of Jason Fleury denied any knowledge of Mendez’ disappearance though he did admit to seeing her the night of her disappearance.
The Fleury mentioned in the Daily Item article is registered as a Level 3 sex offender in Lynn. His work address is listed as Swampscott.
